The Red Mill – Clinton NJ
The Red Mill, located in Clinton NJ has a rich history and played an import part in the area’s history and economy. The wool processing part of the mill was built in 1810 and went through many changes in ownership. The land the mill was built on was eventually split by the Easton Bank. After the split the new owners used the grain to grind flour and grist. Different floors of the mill were eventually used for things like basket making, electrical production, and eventually it changed from grinding grist to grinding graphite. After a public outcry against the black dust which graphite produced, it switched it production over to talc. Eventually in 1928 the mill was sold to the Clinton Water Supply Company, and operations ceased.
